Simply put, this movie is awesome, and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes fun. It's not really spectacular in writing or execution, but the storyline is just so entertaining and the visuals so enjoyable that my inner film snob kept to herself :-P

There isn't a whole lot to summarize or review if you've seen the trailers; a scrawny Viking kid befriends a dragon instead of training to kill them like the rest of the vikings. Not a whole lot to it. But it's so much fun! So go see it!

On a related note, I never get furry art of my characters with movie themes. It's just really not my thing; I don't cosplay, and if I'm going to spend money on artwork, I want it to portray something about my character(s) deeper than "I like Star Trek". However, I have a serious, burning desire to get a good picture of my fursona riding Toothless (the main dragon character). It's hard to explain why, but something about this movie really sticks with me, and something makes me want to express that in artistic form. Since I can't draw, that means I get to write a description and pay someone else to draw it :-)

Oh, and it was quite nice to see the female characters in the movie in roles just as bad-ass as the male characters. While not entirely historically-accurate*, it was pretty cool that the screenwriters completely ignored any semblance of gender roles. It also created the unusual situation of me identifying with the male lead more than the love interest :-P

* = According to my 5 minutes of research while drafting this post, viking women occasionally took up arms and fought as warriors with the men, but this was extremely rare, and the rest of their society wasn't nearly as gender-flexible.
